The Song Shan Shaolin Temple has been famous throughout the Chinese history. It is not only a thousand-year old Buddhist temple and the origin of Zen Buddhis, but it is also the origin of the Buddhist martial arts, Chi gong and medicine. There is a well-known saying that "all martial arts orgiinate from Shaolin."

While Shaolin has always been a major school of Chinese martial arts, it also continuously absorb the essence of various styles. Its martial arts are developed by health and fitness, healing the sick, self-defense and fighting for the righteous. They famous for being practical, effective and trainboth the internal and external quality of a person. The Shaolin style is characterized by punching on one straight line, explosive moves within short range, very fast strikes using opponents energy and continuous multiple attacks.

Historically the Shaolin monks have repeatedly played significant roles in military affairs of China and appreciated by emperors of various dynasties. In the beginning of the Tang dynastry (about 1000 years ago), the thirteen Shaolin staff monks (specialized in staff techniques) saved the life of emperor Li Se Ming and captured Wang Se Chong. Monk Tan Zhong was awarded the status of chief general.

During the Yuen (Mongolian) dynasty, Monk Hu Yu acted as the general of the province of Henan, saved the country and many lives. After his death, the emperor awarded him royal status. In the Ming dynasty, Shaolin monks also helped to fight against the Japanese invaders (ronin). The Shaolin thirtieth generation Chief Monk Shi Su Xu commenced his practice in the temple at age seven, studying under the twenty-ninth generation Chief Monk Zhen Shu.

Shi Su Xu mastered Buddhist teaching, internal and external martial arts and has been coined the "number one martial monk of Shaolin". Benny Fan (buddhist name Shi De Hong) studied the Shaolin Buddhist teaching, medicine and martial arts under Shi Su Xu and became a thirty-first generation successor. (Most of the Shaolin monks touring around the world are of thirty-three and thirty-four generation). Benny also studied Zen, and internal arts from Senior Monk Shi Su Yun.

With years of dedicated studies, Benny mastered the essence of these Shaolin traditions. Under the instructions of the Chief Monk Shi Su Xu, Benny is responsible for teaching and promoting the Shaolin martial and healing arts in Australia.
